well Tom, everytime I ask Tim at FB & Co about the details, he always says "there is no time in Waubeek" We usually start playing about 5:30p, after the afternoon band (no, I don't know who that is!) and play til dark, which these days is about 8:45p. I will make every attempt to get more info out of Tim and get back to this page asap. bd

no novocaine, drill and fill two cavities in 20 minutes! The bad part: no nuts, chips, or other hard food for 24 hours. That cuts out most of my diet! The perfect excuse to have a McBurger and shake and another piece of rhubarb pie! Please don't tell the "fat police" on me! (it'll probably be apparent tomorrow, anyway!) bd

It was great seeing everybody at the Fair Saturday night. Thanks Lucinda for the munchies as I was trying to leave, I had to rip open the string cheese with my teeth, I could not figure out how to open it. Work was anticlimactic Sunday night other than when I was straightening the yogurt and I could clearly hear Any Ordinary Man playing in my head. I suppose it is back in the record vault until New Years Eve unless San could play at the gig in Windser Heights in October. I am bummed I missed out on the pie. Oh well.

Hi Pete, I was out trying to pick out appliances for the new kitchen with "the wife" when you called. Yes, we are scheduled to play at Walker/Johnston Park Friday evening 5ish to 8ish, hope to see you and friends there. They have a rain site, but I'm currently unaware of where it is! So the show should go on, rain or shine. That's good news about Jackie DeShannon. She's written some mighty fine songs, including When You Walk In The Room, which I always played when I was doing the Backtracks radio program live. Unfortunately Iowa Public Radio refuses (for some unexplained reason) to allow me to do Backtracks live these days, so we don't hear that one much anymore. (I know, we could start a petition: LET BOB DORR DO BACKTRACKS LIVE!) (who could possibly be against that?!) Hope to see yas Friday. bd

When writing at this time of the morning, one shouldn't always expect to be logical. While writing the previous note, I forgot why I was writing you in the first place. It is to congratulate you because one of your favorites, Jackie DeShannon, is going into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame on Thursday the 17th...I understand she wrote one of your favorite songs, (Every Time That You)Walk Into The Room" while she was waiting to be picked up by her date, who has remained anonymous for lo these many years, even to this very day...Don't you just LOVE the back stories to hits?...

Mr. Petersen "celebrated" by having emergency surgery in Iowa City to remove the kidney stone that has doubled him up in pain for a week now. Talk about yer contributing to the band's longevity, how in the world did he manage to play last week's 3 one-nighters in that kind of pain? YIKES! Somebody bring this guy CAKE! On the positive side, Mrs. Petersen just called saying the surgery went great and while he was at it, the surgeon was able to check on Jeff's internal recovery from last year's prostate surgery and that looks really good too! And the Blue Band just goes chug chug chuggin' along. Thanks for all the years Petersens! Get well soon, Jeff. bd

I miss you guys!!! Remember I'm friends with Jim Pinckney, Doug Knutson (who originally introduced me to the band at O'Gara's years ago.) The band played at Brewbakers and passed the hat when my son, Jonah needed assistance. I've always had a special place in my heart for the Blue Band!!!
I think I'm coming to Blues on Grand to hear Moreland and Arbuckle in the near future.

Once again, the email system has gone haywire and it seems to be sending today's note over and over and over again. I'm sorry this is happening. Someone with great cyber skills than I (virtually everyone on the planet) will have to figure this one out. See yas at The Hub in about 14 hours. bd

Pete, you are one of the truest Blue People I know. Thanks for looking out after us. As far as The Fair goes, If I live to be 100, I will never be able to pay back The Fair for all it's done for me and The Blue Band. This being the 25th Anniversary of our first date there, I can't really believe we still get invited back, still get to play more than one day and one of those days is a Saturday! Consequently, if The Fair would like us to move a date so they can include others, I'm fine with that. My concern was with Blue People from all corners of the nation and our state, who historically make plans to be on the Fairgrounds when we're there, so when we're NOT there on that final Friday, I hope they're not miffed with me. Hopefully this 3 1/2 month advance notice is enough time for those folks to readjust their plans. Also, people in the band and it's support staff have real jobs that need to be taken care of first thing on that following Monday morning. I am again hopeful that with the advance notice, slight adjustments can be made. The Fair has helped with this problem by making Sunday's shows at 5:30 and 7:30, so we'll be able to get the people with real jobs on the road a few hours earlier. And finally, business manager that I am, I do have a concern that merchandise sales totals on Sunday will fall substantially below what Friday night's have been. The Fair has offered to work with us on the seller's fee that we traditionally pay to them in order to make up for some of that lost revenue. Bottom line is that The Fair would never have asked for this one day shift if they didn't really want it to happen. I'm glad we could help them out and hope they'll invite us back for next year's Blue Band 30th Birthday Tour...As far as the tooth, these procedures have been spread out over the last 14 months, the oral surgeon has gone out of his way to try and save the tooth, but it's starting to die and now needs to be removed. Stuff like this happens to men with as much gray hair as I have! As far as 45 RPM records are concerned, I just throw mine in a box and am sure they are stored in a dry place, out of direct sunlight. 45s are sturdy and can be washed with just a drop of dish detergent and a soft cloth and they clean right up. Thanks for all the years of looking out after us. See ya at The Fair (Saturday and SUNday) if not before. bd

Dear Bob,
In my note Saturday, I just noted how you can turn the new Fair Dates and times to your advantage-he Fair will owe you big-time next year etc.
Sorry to hear again of your dental problems-he only good thing about it may be that you're retired when it is happening to you-I've had a root canal and I've had an extraction, but not one right after the other like you-You must be brave-
When you get time to focus on a solution, I have this question-I have some old 45's, some mine, some my parents'-How do you keep store these in a safe way if you have no sleeves or jackets to put them in? Big plastic bags?
Also, I bought a copy of the T. A. M. I. show for $21.95, and in general it is great as advertised, but it's missing one key segment. It is supposed to have a running commentary by the director, but that is not on it. Is it a case of "Buyer Beware?"

But at least I found out yesterday that the tooth that has had a root canal, root fusion, and partial root amputation is now dying and needs to be extracted, with a fake one to be implanted a few weeks after that! bd

I'd have to say, I've never experienced jumping out of bed at 7:58am (after getting to bed at 4:10am) to tell the concrete man to go ahead and replace the whole sidewalk and then realize you've got to jackhammer the old sidewalk FIRST! Some day I will sleep. But not today. bd

Dear Bob,
Is there something wrong with your web-site? I sent you a message last Sat., May 1st, and there's no trace of it-There also seems to be an eight day gap in messages, from Apr. 22nd to April 30th-Maybe you both are working too hard on rehabbing your house...

Sincere thanks to Dennis MacRunnel and John Niles, who drove to Sparkle City from Cedar Rapids and spent their Saturday afternoon helping Carolyn and me move large appliances between houses. I was prepared with back brace and a chiro appt. already scheduled for Monday, but those two guys would not let me help lift. What a fabulous 100 day anniversary present from those guys! Thanks for the B-day wishes. Too cold for golf? Looks like a beautiful day! I was born during the 2nd round of the 13th Masters. Sam Snead shot an inauspicious 75, but went on to win earning $2500.(This year's winner will take home $1.4 million). Also at about this same time B.B. King was making his first recordings and he's still out there doing what he does best. What a blessing to be born here and to be with the people that surround me today. JP
